Much has been written about creating specific 'Doorway' pages to target a particular keyword or phrase. Definition: A doorway page is an exact replica of your main page but which is optimized for a different set of keywords / phrases. In the early days this worked very well and the major search engines and directories were comfortable with it. However as with most things, advantage was taken by many and soon pages were produced optimized for certain keywords / phrases which had little or nothing to do with the real subject of the page. Therefor Search Engines & Directories ( quite rightly so ) view such pages as a kind of 'Spam' and by using this tactic today you may well get your whole domain banned. So how do you target those additional keywords and phrases on your list ? The correct way to do this is to create a second but totally different page to your main page. This second page should be still be based around your Product or Service and possibly enlarging on a particular aspect that you have only touched on in your main page. For instance you may wish to create an article which expands on one of the main benefits of your product or service. You would write this article and create this page to target those additional keywords / phrases. ( Create 5 articles on 5 different benefits of your product or service and this gives you 5 pages with which to target 5 different keywords / phrases ). Doing this is not only acceptable but carries these additional benefits, - Each of your sub-pages are describing a Major Benefit of your product. i.e. they are all helping to make the sale
- They give your Main Product Page and site 'depth', i.e. you are no longer one page site. Search Engines tend to give a ranking to sites and pages with depth.
- Each of your sub-pages will be linking back to your main page, coupled with the fact each of these pages are designed to rank highly, they help your main page's relevancy score because you now have quality pages linking to it.
This is acceptable because each of these additional pages are not replica's of the first page but are giving the visitor further useful information |
