With the advent of Pay per Click search Engine programs came another method. This goes right to the heart of the beast and takes all the guesswork ( and a lot of leg work ) out of the process.
Some of the Pay per Click Search Engines give you a Free Tool which tells you how popular a search term or keyword is. Now this method isn't quite free because in order to get access to these tools you need to first create an account with these programs. However the minimum deposit is small and ( as you will see later in this guide ) you are going to use these accounts anyway.
There are many Pay-Per-Click Programs, but at the time of writing the top four cover 99% of the Search Engine Market. Here they are, ( although you will probably end up using them all, for now just pick one, sign-up and use the search term tool to build your list ),
Overture
Gives you a Keyword Suggestion Tool, which enables you to enter a Keyword or Phrase and then produces a list of ALL phrases entered by people that contain that phrase or keyword along with how many times in the previous month it was searched for.
This is just the information you need at this stage.
At the time of writing Overture are giving new customers $10 in their account.

Gives you a Keyword Center, which enables you to enter a Keyword or Phrase and then produces a list of every search term entered by people that contain that phrase or keyword along with how many times in the previous month it was searched for.
This is just the information you need at this stage.
A variation on the Keyword Suggestion Tool, this will enable you to enter a keyword or phrase and give you back a list of phrases with an Estimate of how many Clicks you might expect to receive for an Ad targeted on each phrase.Sprinks
Offers Keyword Suggestions by Category. Not as useful as the other programs for keyword analysis, but should be useful to you at a later date.
We currently use all 4 of the above, but our Starting point is always Overture followed by FindWhat, Google and then occasionally Sprinks. We also still do a little bit of checking the competition ( as detailed in the previous method ) just to double check that we have every important search term.
