If you have ever done any Search Engine optimization
or been
following our articles, you will realise just how much
time and
effort it takes to achieve that top ranking.
Ever wondered how some sites manage to get right to
the top
overnight ?
Well the answer is they pay for it, I'm not talking
about the
"Express Submission" options many engines
offer. These don't
guarantee inclusion or position and you still have to
do all the
work in page/site optimization and in obtaining link
popularity.
And I'm not talking about the large companies who pay
the search
engines 100's of thousands for big ad campaigns.
No, I'm talking about a method which is accessible
to everyone
and can be effective and profitable whatever your budget.
These
are the 'Pay Per Click' programs.
Now don't get these confused with the similar schemes
run by
some Banner networks or dodgy so called marketing outfits.
These
are legitimate programs run by the large Search Engines.
There are many of these programs and they all work
like this,
1) You specify your desired Search Listing
(Title and description)
2) You select the keywords and phrases for which you
wish the
listing to appear.
3) Finally you specify how much you would like to pay
everytime
a customer clicks on your listing.
(minimum bids are either $0.01 or $0.05 depending on
the
particular program)
When a search is conducted for your keyword or phrase
your
listing will appear in the results ahead of all other
non-paid
listings.
i.e. if nobody else has entered a bid on your chosen
phrase then
your listing will be in Position 1.
In the event that two or more listings are bidding
for a phrase
then, they appear in the order of highest bid first.
However
Bidded listings will appear above all other results.
So, there it is, you can get your listing to the number
1
position within 24 hours, without all the time and effort
it
takes to do it the free way.
However, before you abandon your Search Engine Optimization
efforts and go head long into the Pay-per-Click programs,
there
is one thing you need to work out - PROFIT.
At the end of the day you need to make a profit and
if it's
costing you more to acquire a customer than you make
on the sale
it's simply not worth it. So think carefully about how
you will
use these programs. They can be very valuable to you,
but be
warned if misused they could cost you dearly.
I would highly recommend taking a cautious approach.
Limit your
initial campaign to the minimum amount (usually $25).
Go for
phrases on which no one else is bidding, but which are
still
being searched for. Monitor the results and see how
many sales
the $25 has brought you. Once you have done this you
will know
exactly what the return is going to be for you.
Essentially I view the Pay-per-Click programs as an
interim step
to acquiring customers via a particular search phrase.
I
continue with search engine optimisation for a phrase
and when
my page ranks highly I then remove my pay per click
campaign for
this phrase. i.e. I use the Pay-per-Click programs to
acquire
the customers whilst my pages are climbing the ranks.
Used wisely the Pay-per-Click programs can bring you
great
rewards and dramatically speed up the building of your
business.
Once again we have produced a guide on how to get the
most out
of the top pay per programs. This also details the four
programs
which cover 99% of the search results.
