With so many sites being created every day there are
already
over a billion web pages out there. That's a lot of
competition!
So how do you get to the top and get the surfers coming
to Your
site ?
Well there is no single or straight forward answer,
however all
successful solutions involve time and persistence. The
vast
majority of website creators will do a couple of weeks
of
promotion when they first put their site up. Beyond
that they
either get bored or look for an easy route. This is
great for
you because it means that all you have to do to get
ahead of the
majority is to keep going. In fact this is how the most
popular
sites have become the most popular, they simply constantly
promote every day.
Now, I'm not going to pretend that marketing and promotion
is
the most exciting thing in the world. In fact many of
the
activities are repetitive, dull and in some cases watching
paint
dry would be more interesting. However, just like standing
back
and looking at a newly decorated room, seeing the results
of my
promotion activities gives me a real buzz.
To combat the boredom of some activities I like to
perform a
different activity each day of the week. This does more
than
combat the boredom, it also ensures that a variety of
activities
are on the go constantly (5 in fact).
So here it is, a Promotion activity for you to perform
each day
of the week.
Monday - Search Engines
This is by far the most important promotion activity
and so I
like to perform this task on Monday when I feel I am
at my best.
This is a big area and includes page optimisation, submission
and position checking.

Tuesday - Newsletter
This is newsletter day. Another vital activity and so
I like to
do this near the beginning of the week when I have a
little more
inspiration. This involves far more than just writing
a
newsletter and sending it out. For the complete story
see,

Wednesday - Link Exchanging
I like to do this mid-week for two reasons. Firstly
it suits me
and secondly I have found approaching other webmasters
midweek
gives the best response. At the beginning of the week
they have
more important things to concern themselves with and
near the
end of the week they are thinking about the weekend.

Thursday - Keyword Research.
By Thursday I am starting to get bored, so I do something
I find
a little more interesting. I look at our products and
use the
search engine keyword tools to find new search phrases
worthy of
targeting. See,

Friday - Results Day.
End of my week and so I like to analyse the results
of the
various activities. Using our own TrafficFile service
I like to
see which search terms people are finding us with, which
sites
are sending us visits and look for any change in trends.

Saturday & Sunday I keep free of all promotion activities.
I
feel this to be important so that my enthusiasm is rekindled
for
the week to come.
There it is, my promotion week. Depending upon your
own
preferences your tasks may vary but the important point
is to
do something different each day and to do something
each day.
Keep going and you will get ahead of the rest.
Good Luck!
