1 dead, I-25 northbound back open south of Colorado Springs after reports of an altercation Wednesday

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A person is dead, and northbound I-25 was closed in the Fountain area on Wednesday as police investigated the incident.

The Colorado Department of Transportation reported a “medical emergency” between S. Academy Boulevard and Mesa Ridge Parkway.

Fountain police said they received reports of a physical altercation between two individuals on the northbound side of I-25 in that area just before 2 p.m.

According to police, a person was located on side of the road not breathing when they arrived on scene. Lifesaving measures were administered, but the person died.

No further information about the incident or the person who died were available as of this article’s last update.

As of around 5:30 p.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation reported the roadway was back open.
