70 Crashes, 50 DUI Arrests In State Police Holiday Traffic Crackdown

BUCKS COUNTY, PA —State Police had busy holiday weekends with traffic enforcement in Bucks County and two surrounding counties, handling 70 crashes and making nearly 50 DUI arrests.

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M – Bethlehem —which constitutes Bucks, Lehigh and Northampton counties —announced the results of both the Christmas and New Year’s Holiday Enforcement period.

The safety initiative P.A.D.E.E.P (Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement Education Program) targeted drivers who aggressively operated their motor vehicle in a manner which was dangerous to members of the public, which included speeding, seat belt violations and child seat belt infractions.

In addition, S.T.E.A.D.D. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Drunk Drivers) and D.R.E. (Drug Recognition Expert) Troopers specifically focused on apprehending motorists who operated their motor vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

During the Christmas Holiday Enforcement Period for 2022:

  • Troopers investigated a total of 37 motor vehicle crashes and made 17 Driving Under the Influence arrests.
  • Also, there were 37 speeding citations, one child passenger seatbelt violation, four seatbelt violations, two occupant protection warnings, 211 other traffic violations, and seven self-initiated arrests.

During the New Year’s Holiday Enforcement Period for 2022-2023:

  • Troopers investigated a total of 33 motor vehicle crashes and made 30 Driving Under the Influence arrests.
  • Also, there were 178 speeding citations, eight child passenger seatbelt violations, 11 seatbelt violations, 15 occupant protection warnings, 567 other traffic violations, and 20 self-initiated arrests.

Motorists are reminded that anyone attempting to flee or elude a police officer in terms of failing to bring their vehicle to a stop, commits an offense, graded up to a felony of the third degree, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, a $15,000 fine, and restitution for damages and/or injuries sustained as a result of the pursuit.
