Residents seeking better street safety in their neighborhood can now request such improvements through the city of Vancouver’s 2023 Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program.

The city is accepting applications through Feb. 28, which can be submitted through an online form at cityofvancouver.us/publicworks/webform/neighborhood-traffic-concerns. Following this deadline, staff will evaluate applications and announce chosen projects in late October.

Application requirements include:

  • Residents and associations can only submit one application per year.
  • Each proposal must have someone to champion it through the whole evaluation and selection process.
  • Cost estimates cannot exceed $150,000.
  • Projects involving a traffic calming device are limited to residential and collector arterial streets.

Roughly $300,000 is available for traffic calming projects, which is made available through Vancouver’s Real Estate Excise Tax, Transportation Benefit District fees and other sources. Projects are considered by the city’s traffic calming program and its Neighborhood Traffic Safety Alliance, a collection of volunteers from Vancouver’s neighborhoods.

Program details can be viewed at cityofvancouver.us/trafficcalmingprogram.
