Blown Tire Leads To Fatal Traffic Crash In Gladstone

On Sunday, 1-15-23, at about 12:34pm, Deputies with the Delta County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to US-2 in the Bayview area of Gladstone for a 2 vehicle crash.

It appeared a pickup, driven by 81 year old Kenneth Arnold of Cornell, had a tire blow out.

This causing him to cross the median into oncoming traffic striking another pickup, driven by 55 year old Michael Englund of Escanaba. Englund was pronounced deceased on scene. Arnold was transported to UPHS Marquette by Guardian Flight. The crash remains under investigation.

Both eastbound lanes of US-2 were completely closed for about 90 minutes, with a detour set up between Escanaba and Gladstone. Then one lane remained closed for another 90 minutes. Traffic flow resumed as normal at about 3:30 p.m.

Deputies were assisted on scene by the Michigan State Police, Gladstone Public Safety, Escanaba Public Safety, Escanaba Twp Fire, Gladstone Fire, Rampart, Guardian Flight, Pro Towing and Gene’s Towing.
