In last night’s episode, Dean ended up falling down the stairs of the Queen Vic after George Knight slapped him, following his confrontation with Linda.

Tonight, Dean was rushed to hospital and Ian was left unimpressed when partner Cindy – who had witnessed the exchange and Dean’s fall – claimed she didn’t see what happened.

Ian accused her of protecting ex-husband George, but Cindy insisted she just didn’t want to see her daughters – Anna and Gina – without a dad, as George could go to prison if Dean reported what he did as he already has a suspended sentence for attacking someone while living in Spain.

But once at the hospital before going in to see Dean, Ian reminded his partner what was at stake.

He said: “Even if we manage to push him out, he’s not going to go quietly, we’ve already got more drama than pies.

“It doesn’t matter whether we think he did or didn’t do it, if we side with George and Linda, this all falls apart.”

When Cindy asked what she should do, Ian said: “What your ex did isn’t your problem, he needs to learn how to control his fists.

“If we haven’t got a business, we haven’t got an income, if we haven’t got a house, we can’t be there for your girls – or the boys.

“And, if you lie to the police, you could end up back inside.”

Later, the couple went in to see Dean, and Ian told him: “If you don’t shut this down, that family is not going to stop coming after you.

“Our business, your investment. Cindy seems to have recovered her memory.”

His words lead Dean to later tell Linda when she came to see him that he wouldn’t go to the police about what had happened, but only if she told everyone in Walford she had lied about him raping her.

EastEnders viewers were furious with Ian and the part he was playing in the twists and turns of the storyline.

Taking to X – formerly Twitter – one wrote: “Too slammed at work today for much commentary (lucky yous) but somebody beat the living s*** out of Ian Beale please… xoxo.”

Another added: “Ian is such a rat. I actually despise him.”

A third tweeted: “Someone throw Ian down the stairs please.”

Meanwhile a fourth commented: “Im really thinking ian could be the body at Christmas.”

EastEnders airs on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer.
