(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 1 – Italy is to ask the European Union to
open infringement proceedings against Austria over the
restrictions on traffic, especially heavy goods traffic, which
it has introduced at the Brenner Pass, the Italian transport
ministry said Thursday, announcing that Minister Matteo Salvini
will make the formal step.
“Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Matteo Salvini will
formalise the (request for the ) infringement procedure against
Austria for the bans at the Brenner Pass”, the ministry said in
a statement.
“The decision has matured today, at the end of the Transport
Council in Luxembourg: Italy has set out all its reasons,
strongly supported by Germany and then by other countries such
as the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Romania, the Netherlands and
Bulgaria.” (ANSA).
