Laurel Police searching for suspect who fled attempted traffic stop – 47abc
LAUREL, Del. – Laurel Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a wanted subject.
According to police, at around 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, officers tried to stop a vehicle for an equipment violation in the area of Wilson Street and Daniel Street. The vehicle failed to stop and continued driving into the Carvel Gardens Apartment Complex, where it came to a sudden stop, accelerated in reverse, and hit the police car behind it. The suspect then fled on foot.
The two officers in the vehicle were not injured.
Delaware State Police Aviation, K9 Unit, and multiple Delaware State Police troopers helped with the search, which was unsuccessful. Inside the vehicle, officers found heroin packaged for sale.
The suspect was identified through investigation as 37-year-old Isaiah Fields, who reportedly had a suspended drivers license and was actively wanted by the Sussex County Superior Court, Sussex County Court of Common Pleas, and Laurel Alderman Court for Violation of Probation and other court matters.
At this time, Fields is still at large and believed to be armed. Police say he is known to frequent the 2800 building of Carvel Gardens Apartments, 700 block of W 7th Street in Laurel, and Pasture Lane in Hollybrook Apartments. Police urge the public to not approach Fields and call 911 if he is seen in public.
Any information on the suspect or incident can be forwarded to the Laurel Police Department at 302-875-2244.
