Long delays after police incident on the M60 – latest updates
There are currently long delays on the M60 near the Trafford Centre following a ‘police led incident’. The anticlockwise stretch of road was temporarily closed between Junction 10 and 9, according to Highways England.
It has since reopened.
It is unclear what the nature of the incident was.
In a tweet, Highways England said: “Traffic is being temporarily held on the #M60 anticlockwise between J10 and J9 near #Manchester due to a police-led incident. There is one mile of congestion on the approach to the incident.”
In an update, they wrote: “Update: The #M60 is now OPEN anticlockwise between J10 and J9 near #Manchester following an earlier a police-led incident. There are residual delays of 45 minutes above usual journey times.”

Traffic service Inrix has given this update: “Long delays cleared and traffic easing after erlier incident on M60 anticlockwise from J10 B5214 Trafford Boulevard (Trafford Centre) to J9 A5081 Park Way (Trafford Park). Previous congestion to J12 (Eccles Interchange).
Carriageway was previously closed due to a police incident.”

Updates following the reopening of the motorway – queues to junction 12

Unknown how long the closure will remain in place
The National Highways advice says: “National Highways have resources in attendance to assist with traffic management.
“Due to the nature of this incident we are not able to advise how long the closure is likely to remain in place.
“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra time for your journey.”

Road users are advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbols on road signs.
- Exit the M60 anticlockwise at J10.
- Take the third exit onto B5214 southbound.
- At the B5214/B5258 (Davyhulme Circle) roundabout, take the fourth exit onto the B5158.
- Rejoin the M60 at J9.

National Highways started issued information about the incident just after 6pm, the road was announced to be fully closed at around 6.35pm.
