Montezuma man dies in wreck after several traffic violations


MONTEZUMA, Ga. (WGXA) — A man is dead following a single-vehicle accident in Montezuma on Saturday.

A Montezuma police officer said a vehicle drove by them on South Dooly Street at 7:49 P.M. and had violated several traffic laws.

It was reported that when the officer began to turn around the vehicle sped up and drove out of sight.

That vehicle was found a short time later, wrecked on Drayton Road.

The driver was identified as Mr. Carl McKellar of Montezuma.

The responding officer made contact with the 31-year-old and Macon County Emergency Personnel were called to the scene.

Mr. McKellar was pronounced dead by the Macon County Deputy Coroner.

Montezuma’s Police Chief, Eric Finch provided a statement following the incident

“Our hearts and prayers are with McKellar family during this time.”

He added, “I want to thank all our First Responders who assisted with this accident.”

The Georgia State Patrol Office in Perry has been tasked with further investigation of the accident. The GBI will conduct an autopsy once Mr. McKellar’s body is transported to their Macon facility.
