34-year-old Kayla Marie Whisnant of Carbon City Road in Morganton was arrested last Wednesday (June 14) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. She’s charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. A second suspect was arrested in this case and was charged with misdemeanor and traffic offenses.
Last Wednesday, shortly before 8 p.m., a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop on a 2000 Honda Civic on Carbon City Road in Morganton. The vehicle was stopped due to the driver having a revoked driver license. After making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, the two individuals were arrested and charged. According to police reports, two grams of fentanyl were seized during the arrest.
The individual charged with the misdemeanor and traffic offenses was released at the scene. Whisnant was taken into custody and brought to the Burke County Jail under $10,000 secured bond. She was not listed as an inmate as of earlier today (June 19). A Superior Court date was scheduled last Wednesday, no upcoming court dates were listed for the drug charges.
