New Katraj Tunnel to be shut for 3 hours; Satara-Mumbai traffic to be hit
The vehicles going from Mumbai to Satara will continue as usual; more traffic disruption by the NHAI on March 23, 24.
New Katraj Tunnel will remain closed for vehicular traffic from Satara to Mumbai for three hours on Saturday and Sunday as part of installing ventilation and safety instruments, the National Highways Authorities of India has informed.

During this time, the traffic from Satara will be redirected from Old Katraj Tunnel to Katraj Chowk, Navale Bridge, Vishwas Hotel to the service road towards Mumbai. However, the vehicles going from Mumbai to Satara will continue as usual.
“Traffic going from Satara to Mumbai through the Katraj New Tunnel will be affected by closures from 11 pm to 2 am on March 18th to 19th, to install a VMS and VSD system. During this time, the traffic will be diverted through the old Katraj Tunnel, Navale Bridge, and Vishwas Hotel towards Mumbai. We seek cooperation from the motorists,” NHAI project director Sanjay Kadam said in a statement.
Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and Variable Speed Drives (VSD) are instruments that play an important role in ventilation and safety within the tunnel.
There will be similar traffic disruptions by the NHAI on March 23 and March 24, officials said.
