MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. – Drivers can expect lane reductions and traffic delays on a portion of Missouri Route 59 in Noel.

MoDOT says crews will be stabilizing the streambank and make sidewalk improvements along the Elk River. Work starts the week of January 3, 2023.

Streambank work will be along the Elk River on Route 59 (Cliffside Drive) in Noel between the Elk River bridge and the Butler Creek bridge.

Crews will also add sidewalks and improve pedestrian areas along that same stretch of highway, according to MoDOT.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Expect lane reductions on Route 59 with traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals
  • One lane of Route 59 OPEN at all times
  • All lanes of Route 59 OPEN if construction pauses for longer than two (2) weeks
  • No signed detours
  • Drivers are urged to find alternate routes
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zones
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather could impact the work schedule. West Plains Bridge & Grading LLC, West Plains, is the prime contractor of the project.

The contract completion date is set for November 1, 2024. MoDOT estimates the construction cost to be $2 million.
