A traffic enforcement initiative will be conducted in Catawba County. Travel throughout our state is expected to increase over the upcoming July 4 weekend. In an effort to promote traffic safety, reduce collisions, and prevent traffic-related injuries and fatalities, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) is conducting a special enforcement project in Catawba County this Thursday (June 29). Troopers will be conducting a multi-agency patrol operation targeting highways such as I-40, US 321, and NC 16.
Speeding is a major cause of injuries and deaths on North Carolina roadways. In 2022 more than 400 people died in speeding-related crashes in North Carolina. Speeding was a contributing factor in nearly 25 percent of all fatal crashes. In a large number of cases, those killed in crashes were not restrained by seatbelts.
Troopers and other law enforcement officers will be aggressively enforcing violations including speeding, seat belt violations, and other traffic laws. This project will be supporting Governor’s Highway Safety Program initiatives such as Speed a Little, Lose a Lot., Click It or Ticket, and Booze It & Lose It.
The enforcement project will take place in Catawba County Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
