Officers with the Jefferson City Police Department arrested two subjects after a traffic stop Friday morning.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of US Highway 50/63 as they were attempting to contact a passenger who was wanted for absconding from a parole warrant. The passenger pulled a fixed-blade knife, according to the release, ordering the driver to drive them away from the scene. Officers prevented the driver from fleeing after she put the car back in drive, and she was removed from the car and taken into custody.

The passenger was subjected to a chemical spray as police tried to subdue him, but he continued to refuse orders as he exited the vehicle. Additional officers eventually arrived, and he was forced to the ground and arrested.

The passenger is awaiting formal charges at the Cole County jail for resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. The outstanding warrant was for possession of dangerous drugs, according to the release.

The driver is awaiting formal charges for resisting arrest, hindering an arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
